Brylea & Brecken | Grand Junction Photographer

Even though it has been cloudy and rainy this month, Spring is here!  I’m sure we are all excited for some warmth before the blazing heat, and the opportunity to get out of the house and do some playing!  I had a fun time out with Brylea and Brecken, they are always very entertaining!

May’s Boudoir Marathon…and a promise from me.

I have finally wrapped my mind around a few things.

This year I have learned the hard way that life is fragile and short, and it shouldn’t be spent trudging through.  Which forced me to re-evaluate how I work.  I love photography.  In a major way.  But I don’t always love what I have been shooting.  So I am branching out.  And focusing.  What I love, and what I want to do, is intimate portraiture.  Boudoirs, couples, men, women, all of it.

My goal with boudoir photography is to have every person leaving feeling sexy, empowered, beautiful, and full of life.  I’m a mom of three little ones, I know how infrequently I get the chance to feel to that way.

So here goes:

By booking out a marathon day I am able to pass the savings on to you!  For now I will just be offering the session – in the future I will add on a hair and makeup artist, and incorporate that into the price.

And now for my promise:  I will be *gulp* wearing lingerie, too.  I don’t want you to be uncomfortable, so we will dive into it together.  Which means I better cut back on the brownies.

Spaces are limited, and they are already booking fast.  To book your session, click HERE to pay the $50 deposit, and I will contact you within a few days to set up your time slot, and discuss outfit/hair/makeup options.

I am very excited about this adventure, and I hope you are too!

Learning, learning, learning…

So far this year has been all about learning, and growth in my business.  In February I was invited to attend WPPI, a HUGE conference for photographers in Las Vegas.  ProDPI, my very favorite super amazing printing company chose me to go, and supplied me with a free pass.  I didn’t only say yes please to this opportunity, I shouted a big ol’ “Um, yes please in a major way I’ll walk there if I have to.”

Let me tell you, it was fantastic.  There are short classes that are available to everyone presented by some of the biggest and most respected names in the industry, and the topics covered range from marketing to lighting, posing, editing, thinking big, street photography, and more.  Lots more.  A few that I attended were: The Language of Lighting and Posing by Bambi Cantrell, Beyond the Blog by JP Elario, Lighting Secrets Illuminated by Kevin Kubota, My Best Marketing Idea by Sarah Petty, Dare to Dream by the Boudoir Divas….and there were more.  I attended so many classes and took so many notes that I can’t even remember them all.

There is also a trade show with hundreds of booths featuring all kinds of exhibitors – printing companies, camera stores, lighting, backdrops, royalty-free music, online galleries, editors, equipment, specialty items like prints on wood, bags and accessories…it was huge.  Huge.  Took me a full day to get all the way through it, and by the end I was barely able to carry my tote because it was so stuffed full of wonderful samples and goodies.  There are speakers throughout the trade show, as well, so I was able to cram in a little bit more learning just as I walked through.  And I got a sweet deal on a ShootSac.  Total gamechanger.

I want to send out a massive thank you to ProDPI for hooking me up with a full registration pass, you truly did change my business.

This month I attended The Fix by Jasmine Star in Denver.  If you haven’t heard of Jasmine Star, she is a wonderful, and ridiculously successful, wedding photographer out of Orange County.  She is in her 6th year of business, and has grown so much in her business that she is now able to travel all over the place teaching people how to grow their business as well.  She is thoughtful and super smart, and reminds all of us that we can’t grow our industry without sharing information and helping each other to grow.  It was an amazing night that gave me a lot of great things to think about.

Most recently I listened in on Kristen from Brand Camp’s In-Person Sales Seminar.  Man, that was a whirlwind of awesome.  She taught the secrets of in-person selling, and how it not only benefits me, but my clients as well.  She shared some incredible tips that I will most definitely be putting to use from now on.

So much new information has seeped into my brain, and I have so many new ideas to implement.  Changes in a business like mine are hard – clients have grown to expect certain policies, and most of those policies will be going right out the window.  I will also be gradually changing my focus from weddings to boudoir photography, so watch for that!  It is a big jump, but a jump I am very ready to make, and a change I am excited about.

Thank you all for sticking with me through these changes, and I look forward to taking my business in a direction that will make all of us more satisfied!

A quick shot from the beautiful city of Denver:

Karson – Belly to Baby

If it seems like it has been radio silence over here for a while, that’s because it has.  I lost two very close and dear friends to a terrible car accident about a month ago, and it has taken me quite a while to get back into the swing of things.  But on to more pleasant topics, like Amy’s pregnant belly, and the cute baby that came out of it.

I stared liking this family from the moment I met them.  They were warm, inviting, hilarious, and normal.  I love me some normal once in a while.  Amy’s pregnant belly was absolutely radiant, and her husband Kaleb not only made me laugh the entire time I was there, but also laughed at my ridiculous jokes (always a bonus in my book!).  Kaiden cuddled right up to me and helped me take pictures, and even gave me a sweet little kiss on the cheek.

Then Karson came.  And I melted big time.  Loads of hair.  Fuzzy baby body.  Crinkly toes.  Snuggly.  Perfect.

We survived a mascara emergency and poop on the couch.  Kaiden helped me take pictures again.  And Kaleb told me stories that still make me laugh out loud when I think about them.  These are just the kind of people you want to know.

Thank you so much for inviting me into your home to experience your wonderful family.  I loved every minute of it!

Jade, Lyle, Jayden & Maycie | Grand Junction Photographer

This was one of my first shoots of 2012, and these guys were an excellent way to get the new year started.

We met downtown on Main Street, and these kids brought all kinds of silliness!  Maycie is most definitely a little poser. She only wanted her picture taken if she could do a model pose.  And Jayden made sure to show of his sweet karate skills.  Even though it was pretty chilly and cloudy out, we still had a good time, and they were so sweet and funny.

Jade, thanks for hiring me, it was so nice to meet your adorable family!
